Playing in the wet…

The Rizla Racing Days are over and it was quite funny to attend a combined auto and motorsports event.
Although I’ve a passion for two wheeled vehicles combined with an engine on the saturday I didn’t knew I was in for a treat that weekend.
Living in Holland is always surprising in the summer you’ll have temperatures one day of 20º while the other day it’s almost too warm to do something.
No build up to a maximum temperature, but the mercury in the thermometers will rise sky high and can drop in an instant the day after.
During the weekend we almost had the same like I just described, but rain was scheduled too fall, but when was an question mark.
When I prepare my gear I always take a small peek to the weather forecast one day before I have to go. Just to finalize the special things that I’ve to take with me.
Normally I take 2 D300′s a 17-55mm, 70-200mm and a 400mm lens with me combined with a 1.7x teleconverter with me.
I got a sniff at professional photography from a friend of mine who used materials from Nikon. And I always kept a good feeling with this brand so I’m still working with the professional line of Nikon.
To come back to the photography, the Rizla Racing Day and the weather for the saturday I packed besides all the gear some plastic bags, a roll of tape and my rainwear just in case.
When it becomes to the weather I’m just a crazy guy, everybody would love to work in good sunny weather whilst I prefer rain.
Especially a good rainshower, although I’m not a fan of crashes rain can be risky, but the sunny side of rain is the effects it has on the subject in the picture.
When I think of rain I see a stream of water dripping of the fairing of the bikes, a spray of water of the wheels getting launched into the sky and falling down again and last but least clear visors.
Almost all of the riders use dark tinted visors so there isn’t any interaction with the rider itself.
In my perspective it’s interesting to see how hard they have to work in these difficult situations to master the bike and to see that concentrate focus while they ride.
On the Saturday of the Rizla Days it rained just a little bit, but not enough for a good water ballet though.
It rained just a little bit in the morning and the rain stopped during the break in the afternoon, but the action I wanted didn’t took place.
On raceday ( Sunday ) the forecast predicted nothing like rain at least at the begin in the evening.
The surprise was big when after the break at the beginning of the afternoon the first drops fell. I began to smile a little bit, but the rain was getting harder and harder and before I knew it the track was fully wet and the cars went out.
When I did some backshots of the cars the only thing you would see was the contour of a car and the color of it and two big red tail lights.
When I arrived back in the media center I was almost drowned and it was pretty busy as in not much photographers were on the track.
I hope to sort some pictures out, but pretty busy at work and next weekend there will be a three day out.
Also motorcycles, but this time plenty of time to do thing on the track, pitlane and the starting grid.

I hope you’ll be back next week when I’ll blog again icon wink Playing in the wet...
